United Nations Security Council
The UN Security Council deals with issues of international peace and security, and is the only committee in the United Nations that has the power to deploy peacekeepers, implement sanctions, and condemn. While the rest of the UN can only make recommendations, resolutions passed by the UNSC become international law. In addition, the UNSC has only fifteen members, far less than any other committee. Five of these members are permanent (US, UK, France, Russia, China), and ten of these members are elected by the UN General Assembly for two-year terms. The five permanent members have veto power, and no resolution can pass if any one of these five states vote no on a resolution.
