Disarmament and International Security
The Disarmament and International Security Committee of the UN, commonly known as DISEC, was the first committee of the UN formed after its founding in 1945. Its purpose is to act as a forum for nations to discuss issues of international peace and security. The UN Charter states its purpose is to establish “general principles of cooperation in the maintenance of international peace and security, including the principles governing disarmament and the regulation of armaments.” The committee is concerned with ensuring the safety of the international community, both through the construction of reliable security and implementing strictures on weapons.
