About CLEIMUN

What is Model UN?

Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation in which students represent countries and work together to address international issues.

  • Before a conference, delegates research their assigned country’s policies and their committee’s topics. They use this research to prepare ideas and represent their country’s interests accurately during debate.

  • During committee sessions, delegates deliver speeches, negotiate with other countries, and collaborate on draft resolutions. These resolutions propose solutions that are debated, amended, and voted upon by the committee.

  • MUN challenges students to consider global issues from perspectives beyond their own while developing skills in public speaking, diplomacy, research, negotiation, and collaboration.

How Is CLEIMUN Unique?

CLEIMUN’s unique style combines elements of MUN operating systems from across the world.

  • Typically, delegates in European models prepare draft resolutions before the conference. The delegates lobby and merge their resolutions with other countries in their committee with the goal of constructing a comprehensive set of ideas that will stand up to debate. After lobbying, resolutions go to the Approvals Panel, which makes sure the papers are formatted correctly.

  • Debate in CLEIMUN is oriented around the North American model. While the conference uses a speaker’s list to structure debate, many of the delegates’ discussions will take place in unmoderated caucuses.

  • The blend of two distinct styles of procedure allows delegates to experience the best of both worlds, while also encouraging robust debate.

How did CLEIMUN Start?

CLEIMUN was started by Michael A. Perrins (MAP) in 2015 at St. Edward High School

  • MAP had previously ran Haileybury Model United Nations in the UK. He brought that same energy and innovation to St. Eds. CLEIMUN was and is one of the most innovative Model UN Conferences in North America.

  • Always remember, “MUN is FUN'“
